Ask These Questions Before You Join a Clinical Trial

What do you need to know before you join a clinical trial? Some patients are so desperate they think taking part in a clinical trial is better than nothing, but not all trials are useful.  On the other hand, joining a trial might give you new options and gives researchers useful information that could bring better cures to medicine.  It’s often very difficult for researchers to get enough patients into trials to figure out if new therapies are useful or not.   Today The New York Times guinea pig over white has this helpful article:  For Patients:  Questions to Ask about a Clinical Trial.

My three favorite questions are:

Why should I enroll in this particular trial?

What do we know about the drug that is being studied?

Would you recommend a relative participate in this trial?
