Patients Can Find Clinical Trials Through New and Improved iPhone Apps
Soon, three iPhone applications will be available for patients who want to search for clinical trials from their iPhone. A year ago StopWatch’s Clinical Trials was the only game in town, but now Healogica has launched a similar application and Trial X says they are not far behind.
Using the new $0.99 app from Healogica, users can plug in their age, sex, zip code and basic medical information to search through the tens of thousands of trials listed in the company’s database. As an added bonus, Healogica will donate 50% of the proceeds from each iPhone download to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network “in recognition of Steve Jobs’ ongoing battle against pancreatic islet cell cancer.” The Network is an advocacy group that works to promote research and provide support for patients with this disease.
StopWatch’s Clinical Trials originally sported a hefty $24.99 price tag, but the company recently cut that to $9.99 and added special listings of trials from the recent American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting.
TrialX has released a new video that demonstrates what their application will look like, and announced it will be released this month.
Clinical trials usually have very strict requirements for the kinds of patients they seek. Part of the art with these types of services will be finding the best ways to match patients only to trials that they have any chance of joining.
